Quite frequently, our company founder gets asked to speak at the local University as well as other organizations around town. He’s asked to speak about a wide variety of things, like program development to establishing a business to managing a business. Lately, he’s been cautious on which events he speaks at, as he has been overwhelmed with other tasks of developing and growing the business. Last night he chose to speak at an event associated with The University of Montana - School of Business; which resulted in more than just an evening away from the office.

When I got to work this morning, first thing I did was check our CRM system to see if anyone had tested our online DEMO. I was pleasantly surprised to find that we had a test alert along with a reply email from the same person. It was great to learn that a potential customer had heard about our company as a result of the presentation last night. A Realtor in Washington contacted us to let us know his daughter was sitting in on the presentation, and once she left the, she was so wowed by our real estate service, Goomzee Connect, and called her dad, a Realtor, to know about it! He jumped online, checked out our site and demo and emailed to let us know he thought we had something great going.

We’ve also received some emails from students, sending their thanks for taking the time out of his schedule to share his experiences, as well as express their interest in an internship for the following semester.

Although networking sometimes seems like a hassle at the time, there is no better way to sell a product than through positive word of mouth. Once people start talking about your product, they’ll want to try a piece of the pie, too! It can be frustrating not to see positive results immediately following your effort, but they eventually trickle in, and by taking the time to network, you’ll be on the top of their mind when their ready to take the plunge. You’ll be pleasantly surprised to receive a phone call a year after a networking event with someone that finally is ready to try your service - hey, it happened to us more than once!

Throw down a couple of eggnogs at your next holiday party even and keep talkin’, Chatty Cathy :) Maybe you’ll get an early Christmas present by landing your next customer there!
